Diwali Party 2005 Report
The Mayfair Bar was heaving on Saturday 22nd October with nearly 300 people partying all night to bhangra, Bollywood and Western dance music at Kismet's 3rd annual Diwali Party.
The entertainment, as promised, was rocking all night
and there proved to be something for everyone,
including live sets from the Asian Soul Sensation - Shayan; Punjabi
Connection UK with Bhinda Aujla; and last but not least Himmat Singh and
gang who really brought the house down with a 20 minute slot, that included
rapper Lyrical UG, live dhol and tabla
players and accompanying dancers who found
themselves competing with guests who just couldn't stand still!
Not to be outdone however was Kismet's own DJ ‘Nicksta' from The Obsession
Crew, who kept feet firmly on the dance-floor all night with his
incredible spin of Bollywood, Bhangra and western dance tunes firing up the
guests from his decks!
Kul Sokhal, a 30-year old dentist commented, “It's my
first time at a Kismet event and it's a good crowd,
with good music. The turnout is really impressive,
so it's a little bit of a hassle getting to the bar,
but everyone seems to be having a great time.”
Guests made a full-on effort to look the part, with
ladies looking stunning in traditional attire as well as some gorgeous
western style dresses and guys dressed to the nines, with some even turning
up wearing cool Indian sherwani's.
The Mayfair Bar, situated in the 5-star Mayfair Hotel,
proved to be a popular venue, with its lush mohair
sofas, stylish bar and chill-out lounge areas. According to one young lady, Manjit Randhawa,
it was “really well organised and the venue is absolutely gorgeous.”
Catered by Ragamama, the 3-course gourmet meal, served buffet style was
absolutely delicious with a choice of 7 different canapés, 6 main course dishes
plus accompaniments and 3 types of tempting desserts! There weren't enough seats for everyone to be seated at the same time but at this party nobody wanted to
sit down for long anyway!
So what did the founder of Kismet UK and event organiser Dil Sidhu think of
it all? "It's hard work but there's enormous satisfaction when it all comes
together and you see people having such a good time. In the past 2 years we
have held Black Tie Balls for Diwali and this time round we wanted to try
something different. It seems to have worked with tickets selling out 2
weeks in advance and demand so great that we could have filled the venue
twice over!"
The ladies also had a great time, especially the girl in black using a
white napkin both as a bandana and part of her wild
bhangra routine! In the
words of Geeta Sagoo it was, "Excellent! A great night and I will definitely be
recommending the next one to my mates!"
Raj Bahia, a 27-year old lawyer summed it up by saying, “It's a cracking
venue with lots of attractive women. The food and music are both great and
it's really nice meeting like-minded people. I'm very impressed.”
You're not the only one!
